Kagoshima’s omusubi and bento shop Musubidoki – Managed by a registered dietician
The Fukumotos welcoming customers
It has been a month since Musubidoki, a store offering rice balls, side dishes, and boxed lunches, opened in Ogawacho, Kagoshima City.
The business opened on November 22. Nozomi Fukumoto, a dietician with 13 years of experience working in a hospital, opened the store with her husband. She said that she wanted to increase opportunities to interact with people since she did not have much contact with patients at the hospital. They chose Omusubi, or rice balls, thinking that “it is suitable for Japanese people and easy to eat.”
Twelve types of Omusubi are available, including Seared Salmon, Pork Miso, and Flavored Ground Chicken, and prices range from 120 yen to 180 yen. The side dishes change daily, and the lineup includes stewed vegetables, simmered Hijiki seaweed, potato salad, and stir-fried shrimp in chili sauce, all priced from 200 yen to 400 yen. These dishes are prepared by the staff of Okazuya Arune, which was located in the same place until last August. “We are grateful that we have regular customers continue to come here,” says Fukumoto.
The boxed lunches feature Daily Lunch Box (550-580 yen), Dietary Lunch Box (720 yen) with nine well-balanced items including fish and meat, and Nokke Bento (580 yen) with fried pork cutlet or fried chicken.
The store has an area of 30 square meters. It has two seats at the counter, but at present, it primarily focuses on takeout food. Fukumoto said that she plans to start offering in-store food and drink on Saturdays from February.
Fukumoto added: “In the future, I would like to start delivering lunch boxes to companies and also to individual customers. I hope to increase new things as if I were going up the stairs step by step.”
Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Closed on Sundays and national holidays (also Saturdays for the time being).
