Kagoshima’s furniture-zakka store offers houseplants under Indoor Jungle concept

Two and a half months have passed since Tokimeki Kagu-Zakkaten, a store specializing in houseplants and furniture, opened in Murasakibaru, Kagoshima City.
The store, managed by the real estate company Alliq Fudosan, opened on November 1 last year. Takeshi Matsubara, the store manager, used to be a “vigorous real estate salesman.” He loves plants such as air plants and learned how to place and display plants in his home through the model room exhibits. Together with a group of colleagues, he obtained a home staging certification. The company adapted Matsubara’s idea of opening a store to meet the increasing demand for botanical products such as houseplants as people spend more time at home.
The store area is 83 square meters. It has 200 to 300 kinds of houseplants (from 500 yen), including Frilled Fan Spurge and Malayan Banyan, 50 kinds of air plants (from 500 yen), and 50 kinds of dried flowers (from 350 yen). In addition, the store offers tableware, fragrances, diffusers, and furniture. On the ceiling, many hanging lights and hanging greens are displayed. The store also features sofa-table coordination ideas and presents style examples, including natural, industrial, and Korean.
The concept of the store is “indoor jungle.” “In Japan, the word is not yet well known, but overseas, it is used in 2.4 million posts on Instagram. I want to introduce the indoor jungle from Kagoshima,” said Matsubara. The store also offers an “indoor jungle project” service, where the staff goes to the location and decorates the entire space with various plants and hanging greens.
Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Until 5:00 p.m. on some days.)
