On January 31, the open-call group exhibition “DREAMERS ART: 火 – Fire” opened at Gallery POLANNCA in Meizancho, Kagoshima City. ART-PORTE, a comprehensive art website based in Kagoshima, sponsors the exhibition.

It is the third edition of the DREAMERS ART series. Each exhibition has a theme and invites exhibitors from all genres and backgrounds. The theme of the current edition is “火 – Fire,” and the first was “人魚 – Mermaids” and the second was “艶 – Tsuya.” Seira Koga, the site’s representative, said: “While fire has a positive association with hope and passion, it can also be used as a negative metaphor, such as ‘to spark a conflict’ or ‘internet burns.’ We decided on this theme, wondering how each artist would create their works from a word that can be interpreted in such contrasting ways.”

There are 30 participating artists, mostly in their 20s, but with a wide range of ages from teens to 60s. In addition to painting, illustration, photograph, dollhouse, and wood carving categories, calligraphy and mask have been added this year.

Looking back on the previous exhibition, “艶 – Tsuya,” Koga said: “It was a difficult theme, but the individuality of each artist came out, and I was impressed that the same theme could be interpreted and expressed in many different ways. This time, too, we showcase a wide range of artworks based on the same word, ‘火 – Fire.’ Some of the artists are new to the exhibition. I hope visitors will enjoy the show.”

Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (until 6:00 p.m. on the last day). Free admission. The exhibition will run until February 6.
