Akatsuka Gakuen Exhibition at Reimeikan, Kagoshima: 200 works by students
The exhibition
On February 8, the “Akatsuka Exhibition” of Akatsuka Gakuen College of Beauty and Design started on the first floor of Reimeikan in Shiroyamacho, Kagoshima City.
The Department of Design offers five courses: Web Design, Graphic Design, Animation/Video, Illustration, and Manga. The exhibition this year showcases more works than last year and features about 200 works by current, former, and new students and instructors.
A wide variety of works line up at the venue, including game characters, website designs, logos and package designs for cafés, posters, illustrations, photographs, animation, and manga. Some students provided postcards, stickers, and other items that can be taken home. A magazine cover design featuring the hair and makeup done by a student of the Beauty Department is also on display, and Taichiro Tamari, the head of the Public Relations Office, says, “We are increasing the number of collaborative works that transcend departmental boundaries.”
The school is also focusing on industry-academia collaboration. This year, a work by a third-year student was selected for the logo commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Tenth Regional Coast Guard Headquarters. A design by a first-year student was chosen as the team logo of the Explorers Kagoshima, a 3×3 basketball team, and they are currently designing uniforms based on it.
Tamari added: “The contents of the exhibition will allow you to appreciate the young sensibilities of the students and the technical skills of the graduates who have become professionals. We hope that visitors will discover the high standard of Kagoshima’s design students and designers.”
The exhibition is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (until 4:00 p.m. on the last day) until February 13. Free admission.
