The Kagoshima Tenmonkan branch of the Korean fried chicken chain NENE CHICKEN opened on April 16 on the second floor of the Gourmet Square building next to CenTerrace Tenmonkan in Kagoshima City.

The chain has been operating in South Korea for over 20 years and has 1,300 outlets worldwide. The Tenmonkan branch is the first restaurant to open in Kagoshima Prefecture. It has a floor space of approximately 165 square meters, with 27 to 28 tables and a seating capacity of 70 people. It also has an area with round tables reminiscent of a Korean food stall, and two large monitors are installed.

Chicken is available in five flavors: Standard Fried Chicken, sweet and spicy Yangnyeom, Korean BBQ flavor Kalbi, Snow Wings covered with grated cheese, and the fiery Hot Bling. Customers can choose the chicken from bone-in, boneless, or wings. The Half & Half option offers two of five choices. Prices start at 1,679 yen for a half-size portion.

Korean dishes are also available, including Seafood Pancakes (982 yen), spicy tofu stew Sundubu Jjigae (882 yen), and spicy rice cakes Tteokbokki (882 yen). The manager’s choice is Cheese Kimchi Kimbap, or Korean rice rolls (882 yen). For drinks, the restaurant offers Korean beer, Soju, Makgeolli, and Korean brand soft drinks, and Chamisul is popular among female customers.

Hirotaka Kumatani, the manager, says: “Now that it is difficult to travel because of the pandemic, this is a place where you can enjoy the atmosphere of being in Korea without having to leave Kagoshima. When it becomes hotter, please come and enjoy our cold noodles.”

Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Closed on Mondays.
