Single Malt Kanosuke 2021 FIRST EDITON, awarded the Superior Gold Medal

Single Malt Kanosuke 2021 FIRST EDITON, a whiskey from the Kanosuke Distillery in Hioki City, won the Superior Gold Medal in the Western Spirits category of the Tokyo Whiskey & Spirits Competition 2022 (hereafter TWSC). This is the first time it has won the award.

The distillery, specializes in whiskey, began operations in November 2017. The whiskey that won the Superior Gold was the first single malt Japanese whiskey produced by the distillery from 2017 to 2018. Using non-peat malt, the whiskey was distilled using all 3 of their pot stills, aged in several varieties of oak barrels, and blended together after three years of maturation.

The TWSC is Japan’s only competition for whiskey, spirits, and shochu that began in 2019. The Western Spirits category was judged in a blind tasting by 241 experts from across the country. In addition to the Superior Gold, Kanosuke Distillery won the Gold for two other brands.

President Yoshitsugu Komasa commented: “This award gives confidence to our company, which has a short history as a whiskey distillery. We will continue to strive to enhance the brand value of Japanese whiskey.”
