Illustrator and mask artist collaborate on exhibition themed on Summer Festival in Kagoshima
Torii gate at the entrance to the venue
A collaborative exhibition “Ougensai (桜幻祭)” by illustrator Sakuramochi and mask artist Genku-dou is currently open at the shop and gallery SOMETHING in Temmonkan, Kagoshima City.
The exhibition opened on June 11. Under the theme of “Summer Festival,” Sakuramochi, known for her soft and gentle illustrations, and Genku-dou, best recognized for organizing parades with fox masks, have collaborated for this exhibition. The entrance to the venue is fitted with a red torii gate. After passing through the gate, visitors will see the stands designed by Genku-dou and large panels of artwork created by Sakuramochi. Visitors can enjoy the festival music and sounds of fireworks playing in the background, which Genku-dou compiled.
Sakuramochi usually creates her works using watercolor and colored pencils. For this exhibition, she also worked on the panels using photographs taken by Genku-dou and produced artworks that combined illustrations and photos. “I hope people will appreciate this new technique,” she said. Visitors can also watch videos of Genku-dou’s photography and Sakuramochi’s coloring process at the venue.
The exhibition is open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until July 10. Admission is 300 yen.
