On July 28, the Kagoshima Aira branch of Choa Chicken, a takeout restaurant specializing in Korean crispy chicken, opened in Aira City, Kagoshima Prefecture.
The chain was founded in Tokyo in 2020 and opened its first outlet in Osaka City. The company explains that it has arranged Korean-style fried chicken — becoming increasingly popular in Japan due to Korean TV dramas — to suit Japanese palates. The chain currently operates over 50 branches, and this is the first to open in Kyushu. Aira-based company Perfect manages the franchise.
It offers 12 types of chicken products, including Choa Chicken, Yangnyeom Chicken, Honey Mustard Chicken, Snow Chicken, and Black Garlic Chicken. Half (300 grams) and Full (600 grams) sizes are available, with the half portion priced between 1,390 yen and 1,600 yen. Choa Chicken also offers a half-and-half (1,650 yen) option, a combination of two flavors. The manager Enokidani says that, since the opening, the Choa Chicken and Yangnyeom coupling is the most popular. The Chicken Walk, which includes three pieces of chicken, is “recommended for anyone feeling a little hungry.”
Enokidani added, “It goes well with rice and tastes good even cold. Enjoy the crunchy texture.”
