The venue at Yamagataya, Kagoshima

On September 7, a pop-up store of Blue Bottle Coffee opened at STAGE 101, an event space on the first floor of Yamakataya 1, a department store in Kinseicho, Kagoshima City.

The coffee brand was founded in California, U.S.A., in 2002. The Japanese subsidiary is Blue Bottle Coffee Japan based in Tokyo. The company operates more than 100 cafés worldwide, including those in Tokyo, Yokohama, Maebashi, Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe. This is the first pop-up store to open in Kagoshima.

At the venue, visitors can purchase its original Kiyosumi Mugs, coffee beans roasted in the company’s own roastery (from 1,782 yen for 200 grams), Kagoshima-exclusive cotton shopping bags (2,750 yen), coffee makers, and other own-brand products bearing the blue bottle logo.

For the pop-up store, Blue Bottle Coffee has also prepared products made in collaboration with local artists in Kagoshima. The Ajiwai and Kaori coffee cups (4,620 yen each), two products from the Ash series created by the ceramics studio ONE KILN, use volcanic ash from Sakurajima for the glaze. Another collaborative piece is a white lacquer wood cup (26,400 yen, sold by drawing only) made by the woodworking artist Akihiro Woodworks.

In addition to the merchandise sales, cold brew iced coffee (594 yen) is available for takeout. There are dedicated Blue Bottle Coffee break spots set up inside and outside the complex.

Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (closing at 4:00 p.m. on the last day). Until September 27.
