Food Stand F in Mifune, Kagoshima, offers ethnic cuisines
Bánh Mì Plate
It has been almost three months since the ethnic restaurant Food Stand F opened in front of the Mifune bus stop in Kagoshima City.
Yufu Kubo, the owner, worked as a manager at an ethnic restaurant in Taniyama for five years before starting his own restaurant. He initially considered opening one in the Kishaba area, where many unique restaurants are around. He later felt that “running a business in the suburbs without any hassles would be better” and decided to open a Food Stand F in the Mifune area, where pople can enjoy a panoramic view of Sakurajima.
The restaurant, located along Route 10, features a blue roof. It has six seats at the counter overlooking Sakurajima and the ocean and eight seats at tables. It also has a takeout order window.
The recommendation is the Bánh Mì Plate (1,200 yen). It features homemade liver paste prepared over two days to reduce the smell; Kohaku Namasu, a daikon and carrot salad; Bánh Mì, a Vietnamese sandwich with chicken marinated in fish sauce; a side dish, and a salad. Monthly specials are also available, with Chilled Tom Yum Kung Noodles offered in September.
The takeout menu includes Phat Kaphrao, Butter Chicken Curry, Tandoori Chicken, and fried bananas topped with ice cream. For drinks, the restaurant offers frozen drinks and lassi in a choice of flavors, such as mango, strawberry, and pineapple.
Kubo said with a smile: “Now that it is difficult to go abroad, I hope my restaurant can offer customers a chance to experience the world through food. On a fine day, I recommend ordering takeout and having lunch while enjoying the view of Sakurajima and the ocean.”
Opening hours: 11:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Closed on Mondays and the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month.
