Scandinavian zakka store starts offering sweets produced in Kagoshima Prefecture
The exterior of Zakka KOSA
On September 16, Zakka KOSA, a Scandinavian zakka store in Chuocho, Kagoshima City, began carrying sweet treats.
The store opened last September in the Ichibangai Arcade near Kagoshima Chuo Station. It offers a variety of imported zakka items from Scandinavia and neighboring countries. To mark the first anniversary of its opening, Koji Inoue, the owner, decided to transform part of the store to include sweets from various regions of the prefecture, believing that it would be convenient for customers.
The selection of sweet treats will change seasonally. This fall, the initial offering will be brownies from Patisserie Recette in Kokubu, Kirishima City. The brownies are made with eggs from Kirishima and millet sugar from the prefecture. They are available in eight varieties, including chocolate, strawberry, tea, chestnut, baked sweet potato and sesame, and “Yogan,” featuring shochu.
“We have many stores in Kagoshima that feature local ingredients to produce delicious homemade sweets. We hope to collaborate with such stores more. We are already working on the second and third editions,” says Inoue. He added, with a smile, “We want to become a ‘kosa (crossing )’ point where people can enjoy both chic and tasty treats.”
Opening hours: 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (until 6:00 p.m. on Sundays and holidays).
