On October 1, “dolor,” a store specializing in original designs and art, opened near the Shinyashiki tram stop in Kagoshima City.

Masashi Taira, an illustrator and designer with the artist name “Mohican,” runs the store. He launched his own brand, “Medicine For A Fool,” 3 years ago and has been promoting T-shirts and other items through his online store. The new store is its brick-and-mortar version. It is jointly managed by a digital art artist Junko Zajiji and also carries products from Zajiji’s “atumetemoyasu” brand.

They decided on the name ”dolor” out of playfulness, as putting a tongue under the letter “l” makes it look like a human face. The store offers unique T-shirts and hoodies featuring skulls or grotesque monster-like characters. Prices start at 10,000 yen as many items are exclusive and one-of-a-kind.

The store also offers artwork by Taira and Zajiji, stickers, and curated zakka items. They accept color customization of digital artwork upon request. Consultations on logos and product designs are also available.

Taira says: “We open in the evening on weekdays. We hope people will stop by when they are visiting Tenmonkan. In the future, we plan to exhibit works by Kagoshima artists. We want to make this place an information hub.”

Opening hours: 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. (from 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays). Closed on Thursdays.
