Café serving Indonesian coffee and Balinese food opens in Tenmonkan, Kagoshima
Nakamura and her mother welcoming customers
It has been a month since the Indonesian coffee & Balinese food café B’ (Be Dash) (Phone: 099-239-6191) opened on the first floor of the CAPARVO Building in Tenmonkan, Kagoshima City.
Kokoro Nakamura, the owner, opened the café on November 20. She says the name “B’” has been used for 40 years. It started as a coffee shop at the time of its establishment, but since Nakamura’s aunt lives in Bali, it once became a Balinese zakka store and a bar. In recent years, Nakamura’s mother ran it as a restaurant on the fifth floor of the same building but moved to the new premises when the business space on the first floor became available.
As the family of her aforementioned aunt runs an Indonesian coffee specialty store in Harajuku, Tokyo, she decided to switch to a café to serve Indonesian coffee to “go back to her roots.”
Indonesian cloth is displayed at the entrance of the café. It has three tables, six seats at the counter, and sofa seats for six people. Nakamura said, “We have created a café where customers can enjoy the Balinese atmosphere with an open, inviting design.”
Indonesian coffee is available in a choice of four different beans. “The coffee is fruity and easy to drink. We use a special dripper so that we can always offer the same taste,” says Nakamura.
The lunch menu includes Nasi Campur (1,000 yen), a plate of Balinese dishes such as sambal; Indonesian fried rice Nasi Goreng (800 yen); Stamina Salad Set (800 yen); and Indonesian fried noodle Mie Goreng (800 yen). The Stamina Salad has been served since the days of the coffee shop 40 years ago.
Nakamura added, “We hope that people who love Bali or have an interest in Bali can come and enjoy the Balinese atmosphere here, which is hard to find in Kagoshima.” She plans to carry Balinese zakka at the café soon.
Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Closed on Sundays and holidays.
