Muffin & coffee café opens in Tenmonkan, Kagoshima City, with lunch sets available
Muffins from Sweet William Café
It has been three months since Sweet William Café, specializing in muffins and coffee, opened in Tenmonkan, Kagoshima City.
The café, run by owner Yoshie Hashiguchi with her sister, opened on November 27 last year. Hashiguchi loves making desserts and has sold muffins at markets and supplied them to local cafés and food trucks. Wanting to open her own café, she started a crowdfunding campaign in November 2021 to raise funds for it.
They renovated a former family-owned dry cleaner to open the café. It has three tables and four seats at the counter, and one of the tables has a sofa for three to four people. The interior is decorated with a bubble chandelier featuring a cluster of soap bubble-like lights.
Five to six types of muffins are available daily, and examples include Kumquat and Cream Cheese, Spiced Espresso, Apple Cinnamon, and Banana Chocolate Chip Crumble. The muffins come in three sizes: Ultra Mini, Demi, and Original (some are not available in all sizes), and are served warm when consumed at the café. Prices range from 350 yen for a Demi and 450 yen for an Original.
Sweet William Café offers hand-drip coffee prepared with lightly roasted beans from Ethiopia, China, Vietnam, and other countries. Prices range from 500 yen for hot and 550 yen for iced. It also serves Caramel Latte, Café Mocha, and Hojicha Latte, to name a few.
At the end of January, it also began serving lunch. Currently, it offers only one menu item, a limited number of sets that include spaghetti with meat sauce simmered in red wine, salad with vegetables sourced from organic farms, and soup made with seasonal vegetables and fruits.
Hashiguchi says, “In the future, we want to expand our lunch menu to make the most of organic vegetables and start making scones with homemade yeast. We also plan to start selling zakka at the café by the end of the year.”
Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (lunch: 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.). Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
