Set-meal restaurant Rice Man opens in Kagoshima, focusing on fish dishes
Entrance of Rice Man
On March 3, a set meal restaurant, Rice Man, opened near Takamibaba Station, Kagoshima City.
Shingo Iwasaki, who worked at a Spanish restaurant in Fukuoka for eight years, opened the business. Iwasaki returned to Kagoshima to master Japanese cuisine and opened the restaurant with the desire to “offer set menus with grilled and stewed fish.”
The restaurant has an area of 50 square meters. It seats 12 at tables and eight at the counter. The interior of the restaurant is calm and relaxing, featuring wood grains. Since it is located in the basement, Iwasaki chose a “name with impact” for the restaurant.
The set meal menu consists mainly of fish dishes, such as grilled, deep-fried, and sashimi, and includes the Mirin Sabelfish Set (1,200 yen), Fried Horse Mackerel Set (1,000 yen), Yellowtail Sesame Sashimi Set (1,000 yen), and Simmered Sea Bream Set (1,000 yen). Set meals featuring karaage chicken, chicken tempura, and meat tofu are also available, along with small-size sets (around 700 yen), which are smaller in quantity and lower in price.
A la carte dishes are also offered, such as tuna natto, vinegared sea cucumber, and potato salad. In March, the menu included fried white fish and vegetable tofu, bonito tataki, pickled firefly squid, and assorted sashimi. It also serves alcohol, and Iwasaki says, “Lunchtime drinkers are welcome.”
Iwasaki added, “I hope people will stop by for a quick drink on their way home from work. In the future, we plan to offer takeout and delivery services as well.”
Opening hours: 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Closed on Sundays.
