On May 16, the international brand hotel Sheraton Kagoshima (Koraicho, Kagoshima City) will open in the Kirameki Terrace complex across from the Takenohashi Station.

The hotel is managed by Nangoku Hotels, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nangoku Shokusan in Chuocho, Kagoshima, and operated by Marriott International, headquartered in Maryland, USA. The facility is a 19-story building with a total floor space of 24,000 square meters. The design incorporates the landscape and topography of Kagoshima, and the hotel representative hopes that guests will be able to experience the magnificent view of Sakurajima and the interior of the hotel as one. The lobby is based on the theme of “Kagoshima’s Living Room,” with greenery and wood as its key elements.

Guest rooms are located on the 6th through the 18th floors. There are 228 guest rooms of 10 types. The rooms are mainly 35 square meters, with 100 rooms equipped with a king-sized bed and 88 rooms with two double beds. The 111 rooms with Sakurajima in the name offer a panoramic view of Sakurajima and the Kotsugawa River that flows through the city center. Although the room rates vary depending on the season, they start at 33,800 yen per room for double occupancy.

Other features include eight 73-square-meter Sakurajima Suites, two 109-square-meter Sakurajima Imperial Suites, a club room, a club lounge on the 18th floor, a fitness gym and spa on the 5th floor, and a footbath and large public bath with hot spring water pumped from 1100 meters underground (available only to hotel guests). The hotel also has a 353-square-meter banquet hall, two conference rooms, and a garden chapel on the 2nd floor.

Five restaurants and bars await guests, including a café &More on the 1st floor, which offers baked goods and crepes, and has tables and private rooms designed to make meetings comfortable, and a buffet-style dining room Daily Social on the 4th floor, which serves breakfast to the guests. The 19th floor features the Flying Hog Grill, a restaurant that grills meat on a wood grill, and the open design of the kitchen allows guests to watch the meat cooked, cut into pieces, and served. Also on the same floor is Satsumagma, an izakaya serving Kagoshima shochu and dishes using local ingredients, and Vivarium, a bar decorated with an abundance of ornamental plants and hanging greenery.

General Manager Takeki Toda said, “The staff is very excited about the opening. The Sheraton is a place where people from all over the world gather. We hope a wide range of customers will enjoy the hotel.”
