On March 19, a new restaurant, Kitchen Hidemomo-ya, opened near Kishaba Station on the Kagoshima City Tram. The restaurant is open for breakfast from 8:00 a.m., followed by lunch and café hours in the afternoon, and serves as an izakaya in the evening. “I wanted to create something unique so that a wide range of people can enjoy spending time here,” Gotanda Hidehito, the owner of Kitchen Hidemomo-ya said. He named the restaurant after his children.

“I always wanted to start my own restaurant one day,” said Gotanda. He learned his culinary skills at Restaurant Master no Daidokoro in Jiyugaoka. The restaurant offers lunch sets such as the Hamburg Steak set (990 yen) and Chicken Nanban set (858 yen) for less than 1,000 yen “so that people can enjoy quality, delicious food at reasonable prices.” From Miso Soup (made with five kinds of vegetables in a broth of bonito flakes from Makurazaki and kelp from Hokkaido) to rice (the highest grade Akihonami rice from Kagoshima), Gotanda strives to serve “a variety of creative and satisfying dishes.” A one-coin lunch box (500 yen) is also available for takeout.

Homemade cakes (from 300 yen) can be enjoyed during the café hours, which starts from 3:00 p.m. The restaurant has four tables, two sunken kotatsu tables, and five counter seats, and the interior was designed “to create a relaxing space where you can feel the warmth of wood.” At 6:00 p.m., the lights are dimmed and it transforms into an izakaya. In the evening, Kushikatsu, deep-fried skewers, are available starting at 100 yen each. They also offer an all-you-can-drink (1,280 yen) option.

Gotanda said: “I hope to make this a place where locals and people from all walks of life can enjoy spending time. Listening to what customers want, I would like to create a place where many people want to come.”

Opening hours: 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Closed on Wednesdays.
