On August 26, the ramen restaurant Chuka Soba Amenimo Makezu opened near Kagoshima Chuo Station West Exit, relocated from Usuki.
The restaurant was formerly known as “Men-no-bo Amenimo Makezu,” which opened in Usuki in April 2020. This year, the owner Shinji Miyazaki decided to relocate to a new location where he could manage the restaurant alone, with only counter seating. He also mentioned that he had always wanted to open a restaurant near Chuo Station.
The floor space is approximately 26.4 square meters and has only eight counter-seats. The name “Amenimo Makezu (雨ニモマケズ)” is derived from a poem by Kenji Miyazawa, a poet and author, symbolizing the philosophy and dedication of Miyazaki, who deeply admires the poet and incorporates his ethos into the management of the restaurant.
With the relocation, Miyazaki also revamped the menu. He says, “Both the soup and noodles have been changed from the taste I offered before the move.” Previously, Miyazaki provided a soup that catered to a family-oriented customer base, but after the relocation, he changed to a thicker soup to target younger customers.
The menu for Chuka Soba noodles includes Classic Shoyu (soy sauce), Modern Salt, and Shoyu with Dried Sardines, all priced at 900 yen. Customers can add toppings such as eggs, meat, and vegetables (priced from 1,050 yen). The restaurant offers bottled beer, shochu, and snacks such as roasted pork and wonton. Mild vinegar and “secret condiments” are available at the counter to enhance the flavors and allow customers to customize their taste.
Miyazaki added, “I want to create an atmosphere that even women can casually drop in by themselves and be loved by the locals.”
Opening hours: 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. (until 3:00 p.m. on Sundays). Closed on Mondays.
