Current and former students of Akatsuka Gakuen Design Department hold exhibition at Yocado Kagoshima – 30 works on display
The exhibition
An exhibition showcasing the works of students and graduates of the Department of Design, Akatsuka Gakuen College of Beauty and Design, has been held on the second floor of Yocado Kagoshima since May 1.
The Department of Design offers five courses: Web Design, Graphic Design, Animation, Illustration, and Manga. Last year, the background images created by students in the Animation Course were used in a TV commercial for Mori Construction Corporation, and other designs were used in posters and banners for Kagoshima United FC. The work titled “Shirodon’s Family Trip” created by a student won the top award in the general category at the Second Kagin Space Design Competition, sponsored by Kagoshima Bank.
The exhibition features about 15 works of second- and third-year students and 15 works of graduates. The students’ works are mostly large-scale, about one meter in length. While most of them are acrylic and digital, the exhibit also includes patchwork. Among the graduates’ works on display are those of illustrators Tsuji Misaki, Murashita, and Miyashita Rino.
Nishi Yuki, the principal of the college, said: “We are very happy to be able to hold this exhibition at Yocado Kagoshima, which is celebrating its first anniversary. The works on display this time are just a few examples, but I think people will appreciate the young sensibilities of the students. I hope the visitors will realize that there are many young people studying design and illustration in Kagoshima.”
Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. The exhibition will run until the 30th of this month.
