It has been three months since the opening of Kottin, a patisserie and cake atelier in Toso, Kagoshima City.

The shop opened on February 12. Imamura Kyoko, the owner who loves strawberries, decided to partially renovate her house to open a patisserie. “I always wanted to open my own shop, and I taught myself how to make cakes and pastries,” said Imamura. Inside the store, she installed a stained glass ceiling lamp that she made herself in the stained glass class and chose the pink wallpaper “to give the shop a cute impression.”

Kotti is only open for take-out, and the Taiwanese Castella Cake (from 300 yen) is its hot-selling item. Other offerings include Strawberry Crumble Cake (200 yen), Dainagon Cake (120 yen) with sweets beans, and Basque Cheese Cake (320 yen). Maritozzo (from 300 yen) is available only on Wednesdays and Sundays and comes in three types: cream, whole sweet beans, and strawberry. The Strawberry Maritozzo is available until the end of May, when the strawberry season comes to an end. “After that, I’m considering using other fruits,” Imamura said. Customers can also pre-order whole cakes for birthdays and special occasions (from 2,000 yen). “I make and sell cakes by myself, so I would appreciate it if you could make an early reservation for the special cakes,” she asks her customers.

“As this is a solo operation, I can’t make a lot of different kinds of cakes, but I want to do my best to offer as many as I can. I want to put my heart and soul into making cakes so that the customers would say ‘That was delicious’,” she added.

Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. until sold out. Closed on Tuesdays and Fridays, with some temporary holidays.
