An illustrator and portrait model Maple (めい風る) will hold her first solo exhibition, “A Single Bed and Toothbrushes for Two,” from June 5 at the shop and gallery SOMETHING in Tenmonkan, Kagoshima City.

The exhibition will feature about 20 illustrations and 250 to 300 photographs themed on “the precious time with the partner.” She draws her illustrations with Copic pens and Milli pens. “I love the sky, so many of my works are inspired by the sky. Since we are living in such a time as this, I hope that people can feel a sense of connection through my artworks,” said Maple. Some of the illustrations will be replaced and others will be added in the second half of the exhibition.

“This picture reminds me of my late husband … I always took it for granted that I would spend my life with him, but as it turned out, it wasn’t the case … Once I was as happy as the couple in this illustration,” a woman who visited the previous joint exhibition saw Maple’s work and said in tears. It was this comment that led Maple to organize this exhibition. The concept of the exhibition is to “create a space where we can truly understand and appreciate the time we spend with our loved ones, which may seem nothing special but actually is.”

“There are many people who can’t see their loved ones even if they want to. I hope this exhibition will give them a chance to think about someone really important to them,” Maple added.

The entrance fee is 300 yen. The gallery has introduced the Three Cs Tool (Closed space, Crowded places, Close-contact settings), which allows visitors to find out how busy the gallery is before their visit. The number of visitors will be shown on the website in three levels. The exhibition will run until July 4.
