It has been two months since the opening of Gyoza-no-Mitchy, an izakaya (Japanese style gastro-bar) serving gyoza dumplings and karaage fried chicken, on Shichimi-Koji Street in Tenmonkan, Kagoshima City.

The izakaya opened on April 15, and it has 10 tables, 6 counter seats, and one private room with a sunken kotatsu for 8 people. The name, Mitchy, comes from the name of the owner, who also runs Michi-no-Café in Tenmonkan.

In addition to the standard pan-fried Mitchy Gyoza, the menu features unique dumplings such as Lemon Salt Gyoza covered with green onions, Taki Gyoza in Fukuoka pork-bone broth, Super Spicy Soup Gyoza, and Melted Cheese and Tomato Gyoza. All come in sets of four and are priced from 495 yen. Currently, only the pan-fried dumplings are available for takeout, and they are also available frozen.

The izakaya also offers Japanese fried chicken, karaage, made with Sakurajima chicken, and available parts include thighs, wings, neck, and gristle of spring chicken. In addition to its signature items, it also serves potato salad with a seasoned boiled egg on top, Mapo tofu, and other classic bar snacks. The Soupless Szechuan Tantanmen and Kimura’s Special Thick-soup Tantanmen noodles (both 900 yen) are offered only during lunchtime, and these are collaborative menu items with Mensakaba Kimura in Makurazaki City.

Niibo Daisuke, the manager of the izakaya, said: “We use pesticide-free vegetables grown in our own fields and pork from Kagoshima prefecture. We offer collaboration items such as Tantanmen for lunch, so you can enjoy our izakaya both day and night. Come and have a great time here.”

Opening hours: 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. (Business hours may change at the request of the national and prefectural governments.) Closed on Tuesdays.
