It has been two and a half months since the opening of Karamenya Kojirou, a restaurant serving Miyazaki specialty spicy noodles, at the second-floor food court of AEON TOWN Aira in Aira City.
The restaurant opened on March 31 and serves spicy noodles, karamen, in a chicken broth with ground beef, nira chives, and eggs. It offers different spice levels, from 0 to 100, and the price varies depending on the level: 0 to 5 are 880 yen, 6 to 9 are 930 yen, and 100 is 1,930 yen. Customers can choose the type of noodles from konjac yam, Chinese, and udon noodles.
“Level 3 is for beginners, but 6 to 9 are the most popular,” said Urata Kotoya, the store manager. The restaurant also organizes challenges, and it is currently offering a refund “if you finish the 50+ spice level in 11 minutes without leaving any soup.” Urata explained, “The reason why we set the time to 11 minutes instead of 10 minutes is that the food court is large, and we have to consider the time it takes to get to the table.”
In addition to karamen noodles, the restaurant offers side dishes such as Kurobuta pork gristle and dumplings, and karamen and side dishes are available for takeout.
It also holds occasional events or gives incentives such as free dumplings for following the restaurant on Instagram. “We are planning to launch promotions that will go viral on social media and the web. We hope that people will try our food and get to know us,” said Urata. Karamenya Kojirou is opening the second restaurant by the end of this year.
Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
