25 artists participate in open-call exhibition in Meizancho, Kagoshima City
The exhibition
The open-call collective exhibition “DREAMERS ART – 艶” opened at Gallery POLANNCA in Meizancho, Kagoshima City, on August 2.
It is the second edition of DREAMERS ART. Each exhibition has a theme and invites exhibitors of all kinds to participate. The theme of the current exhibit is “艶 (tsuya),” and the first one held last November was “Mermaids.” Twenty-five artists, mostly in their twenties from different fields, are participating in the show. The works on display include paintings, illustrations, photographs, crafts, dioramas, as well as background music played at the venue.
The DREAMERS ART series is organized by ART-PORTE, a comprehensive art website based in Kagoshima. Koga Seira, the organizer, started the website with the idea of “providing a place for artists working in Kagoshima to exhibit their works and introducing them to a wider audience.” She decided to hold open-call exhibitions, as they are rarely seen in Kagoshima.
“The character 艶 has a variety of meanings; for example, it can be used as an adjective for bewitching or sexy, but it can also signify luster, youthfulness, or even polishing skills. I hope that visitors will enjoy seeing how each artist expresses a single theme in their work,” Koga added. The third edition, scheduled for January next year, will be on the theme of “火 – Fire.” The call for entries opened yesterday and will remain open until October 31.
Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (until 6:00 p.m. on the last day). Free admission. The exhibition will run until August 8.
