On September 8, FOOD CHANNEL COFFEE, a coffee stand, opened near Taniyama Dentei stop on the Kagoshima City Tram Line.

Nasu Miwa, the owner, runs a deli FOOD CHANNEL near JR Taniyama Station. She decided to open the coffee stand opposite the tram stop, thinking that “just like Italians have their favorite bar that they go to every morning to enjoy coffee, we should have a place around Taniyama Dentei where people could stop by daily.”

The stand uses an Italian espresso machine, and the coffee menu includes Americano (350 yen), Cafe Latte (420 yen), Caramel Macchiato (450 yen), Espresso (200 yen), and Cafe Mocha (450 yen). Whipped cream can be added to any of them for 50 yen.

Since it is open during morning and evening commuting hours, it has also added various juices such as green juice (400 yen), apple, mango, and pineapple (380 yen each). “We wanted to provide nutritious items that are easy to consume for people who are busy and don’t have much time,” she said. In the future, she plans to add smoothie-style vegetable juice and banana juice, using the vegetables she purchases for the deli.

Scones are available for snacks, including Edamame and Cheese, Onion and Bacon, and Cream Cheese and Blueberries, priced at 300 yen. “We serve them as light snacks rather than as sweets. They are large enough to fill you up,” said Nasu. All items are available for takeout. There is a standing-only eating space inside the shop.

Nasu added: “We hope it will become a regular spot for our customers, just like bars in Italy for Italians. We want to see it become a part of their daily routine.”

Opening hours: 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.
