It has been a month since O. by mare, a hair salon, opened along Nishida Hondori in Kagoshima City.

The salon opened on August 30. Takeo Oguri, the owner, worked as a hairstylist in Ginza, Tokyo, for 20 years. Later, he decided to move to Kagoshima, his wife’s hometown, as he wanted his children “to grow up in a place rich in nature and interaction.”

The salon name, “mare,” means “sea” in Latin. It reflects Oguri’s own love of the sea, the fact that his children’s names contain the word “mare (稀)”, and his wish that both his business and children keep growing steadily.

The salon has an area of 54 square meters with three styling stations and two shampoo units. Inside is bright with natural light and decorated with ornamental plants throughout to “create a relaxing and calm space.” The clientele is a wide range of men and women of all ages.

The salon menu includes Cut (4,400 yen for men, 5,500 yen for women), Cut & Color (9,900 yen for men, from 12,100 yen for women), Natural Perms (10,260 yen for men, from 12,650 yen for women), Hair Straightening (16,500 yen), and TOKIO Treatment (4,400 yen).

In the small exhibition space set up in the salon, Satsuma porcelain by Yamagami Seisakusho and work caps are currently on display for sale.

“We want to provide high-quality services. If your hair does not match your ideal, if you are not satisfied with your current style, or if you want to take good care of your hair, please feel free to consult us, “ Oguri added.

Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (9:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays). Closed on Tuesdays and the third Sunday of the month.
